Friends, the author and her mother of this beautiful poem gave me permission to put this on my blog. By Elizabeth, age 13, wrote this poem for her brother William, age 18, with autism.
You don't belong in the world, this world of pain and sadness, that's for others, you have already paid the price, and if life was fair you wouldn't have had to.
You are past the confines of society, the limitations, you are free of that. They don't understand you, but I do. And they don't understand me, but you do. And together we understand, that some things don't need words, and that differences are often to your advantage.
And while I miss the brother that you might have been, I will never love you more than I do now. I love you, William.
